THE FINAL SOLUTON TO NIGERIA ELECTRIC POWER PROBLEMS
THE FINAL SOLUTON TO NIGERIA ELECTRIC POWER PROBLEMS
A PROPOSAL
The way out of Nigeria electric energy problems start with you, yes I mean you as a Nigerian or a citizen of Nigeria.
As a Nigerian and a citizen, who has so much interest in nipping in the bud, the lingering electric energy defficiencies in Nigeria, raised a proposal on this issue sometimes ago, I stand and maintain that the way out of our electric energy problem is ;
CONSERVATION OF THE PRESENT ELECTRIC POWER GENERATED & DIVERSIFICATION OF OUR SOURCE OF POWER
1.CONSERVATION
I presented an initiative on how Nigeria and Nigerians can conserve power in various ways,to meet with important power demands in other areas sometimes ago,the write up is still available and can still be accessed on the discussion board.
Just imagine street lights still on at 10am.when you calculate the number of street lights and the power consume by each light, then sum all the power consume by all the street lights, when they are not needed. power generated is not enough but we waste the little generated POWER. now you can see the sense in conservation right?, if every citizen of Nigeria will take the simple steps of conserving power. it will go a long way in taking us to the promised land of constant uninterrupted electricity supply in Nigeria, I must tell you it is very feasible, no doubt about it.
Remember, it doesn’t just make sense conserving electric power, but you also save some money in your pocket, even when you are using generator, most people doesn’t know that the more the load on your generator, the more the fuel consume and the more the money spend on fuel.
Conservation at it best will help you to get the best out diversification into solar energy, if only every Nigerian will take these conservation tips as our way of life, there will be great improvement in electricity, because I see no reason why you will switch on appliances or light that you don’t need at the time, let do the right thing to help our electricity.
2.DIVERSIFICATION OF ELECTRIC POWER SOURCEs
By diversificatin i mean let us try other means of generating electricity,in nigeria we depend so much on gas generators,thats why you see that any defect in the gas supply,80% of the country will be trown into black out,the only relaible source of power for now is the generation from the water dams..it is pertinent we advance to other sources of power generation.
There are several ways electricity can be generated in nigieria,lets just consider some possible ones;
1.SOLAR POWER
2.WIND ENERGY
3.HYDRO-ELECTRICITY
4.NATURAL GAS
5.PETROLEUM
6.COAL
7.NUCLEAR
Nigeria has been concentrating on HYDRO & GAS,why don’t we advance to other means of generating electric power; just imagine several states of the federation embacking on power projects, every now and then, but they are all centered on natural gas, meaning a single strike in the gas supply line will render all the power projects non functional.
Well if the government is taking time to diversify, you as a citizen can diversify if possible stay off the national grid,of course it is very possible you will forget paying PHCN bills,so lets start with no.1
SOLAR POWER GENERATION
Who can use Solar Power?
A Solar Power energy system can be used by anyone in nigeria to supply all their electrical needs, provide back-up power, or even just as a supplement to the normal electrical grid connection to PHCN. It is ideal for remote locations where power is unavailable or too expensive to hook-up to. To achieve this, there are things you must know,which iwill explain briefly below;
1.SOLAR PANELS
2. CHARGE CONTROLLERS
3. POWER INVERTERS
4. STORAGE BATTERIES
5. AC GENERATORS
6. WIRES & CABLES
7. METERS & MONITORS

What has our government done
In Nigeria, as in many developing countries, providing energy to rural and urban areas has proved to be a great challenge. The Federal Government, State and Local Governments formulated policies towards increasing rural energy access have all along focused on grid extension and tanker distribution of petroleum products. With increasing population, the pressures on the infrastructure for the supply of conventional energy resources will continue to increase. Again, conventional energy is depletable with extinction risk. In order to enhance the energy security of the country and establish a sustainable energy supply system, it is necessary to promote the policy of diversifying the energy supply so as to include alternative or renewable resources and technologies into the nation’s energy supply mix. Nigeria is endowed with abundant renewable energy resources like solar, wind, biomass, small hydro, etc., which have minimal or zero supply logistic problems. Harnessing these resources leads to decentralized use and local implementation and management, thereby making sustainable rural socio-economic development possible through self-reliance and the use of local natural resources. For this to happen, the policy makers should make renewable energy development a priority policy statement of government at all levels. Lawmakers should develop appropriate legal, regulatory and institutional frameworks that de-emphasize over-dependence on fossil fuel”
MORE JOBS WITH DIVERSIFICATION
If only goverment will start this process,it will create more jobs to the many unemployed youths,;;;;
An update on the state of the Nigerian electricity industry. Following the Frost & Sullivan Nigeria country study carried out in 2007, this research service investigates the latest developments that took place in the industry. It also contains forecasts on electricity demand and supply from 2005 to 2015. A particular attention is given to generation, transmission and distribution sectors. This study gives a comprehensive overview of the market size, industry challenges and market drivers and restraints. It also gives the legislative surrounding the sector and an analysis of the current infrastructure, on going and future projects in each sector.
